Robert Irwin + DWTS

Dancing With the Stars is celebrating its thirty-fourth season with a plethora of A-list celebrities, one of them being wildlife conservative and zookeeper, Robert Irwin, the son of Steve Irwin. Robert has been in the public eye for a few years now and has recently become the media’s newest thirst trap when he posed for Bonds, an Australian underwear company.

I’m not going to post the pictures as I don’t believe I should be giving glory or direct attention to this photoshoot in the slightest. It has been called ‘racy’ by People Magazine, and all of a sudden, it seems that every woman in America is drooling over the twenty-one-year-old.

I’m no stranger to the fact that Robert Irwin is an attractive man, but it saddens me that yet again, Hollywood has lured another innocent soul into their clutches and oversexualizes them, turning them into an object on a pedestal, becoming merely a piece of meat over the lion’s den.

I’ve always believed Dancing with the Stars is nothing but lust and sexual dances. Dancing is a form of art, expression, and talent. I don’t think the show does a good job of portraying any of that. However, they create drama, put their dancers in revealing outfits, and (in my opinion) shove provocative ideologies down the throats of these professional dancers and celebrities.

I’m not saying that there is no talent on the show because there is, but a lack thereof, because the producers, directors, and creators of this show are instead worried about the bodies and the people they can make sex icons out of.

I have been a fan of Robert Irwin long before his Dancing with the Stars debut. I have seen the innocent light in his eyes and the heart he has for his family, wildlife, and creating a better world. But just like his sister, Bindi, somehow, they have become entangled in the bright lights and agreed to be on this show.

During week two of the thirty-fourth season, Robert and his dancing partner, Witney Carson, performed a racy salsa where Irwin rips his shirt off, revealing his ripped body, and thrusts towards the camera and his dancing partner. Not only did this seem extremly out of character for Robert, but it displayed what we’ve always known about Hollywood - they can pay you to do what they want.

Robert, on a red carpet, even revealed that the Chip and Dale dancers asked him to join their dance team, to which (thankfully) Robert declined.

If you’re a fan of Dancing with the Stars, I encourage you to think about what the show is really promoting and what is behind the dances, and most importantly, the souls and hearts of these celebrities.
